Jaren Heard shows off the first trees out of the ground in the 03 digging season fresh dug 6-8' Weeping Willows ready to be replanted..
These were 24" Flowering Crabapple liners last year. Most have grown to 3-5 feet in one season and are ready to be replanted on 6' row spacings or in 20 gal. pots. Grown with organic methods they have huge bushy root systems.
At Lake Tree Farm we start bareroot harvesting in December after the first couple of hard frosts have made the trees go dormant. We dig the liners we planted last year as after one year they start crowding each other in the row. We sort the bigger trees to be potted and sold and the smaller trees go back into the field spaced farther apart to grow another year. These Weeping Willows have more than doubled in size with the combination of composted mulch, plenty of water and no herbicides use. We mulch our rows and mow between them as we are 100% organic growers. Our customers want trees that are safe for children, pets and the environment.
